Oh Austin. It's the city that all other up-and-coming hipster cities aspire to be. Well, I suppose Portland is that way as well, but I'll take the Texas heat over a constant drizzle. Make no mistake, however. Austin was NOT warm when we drove through on our way down to San Antonio to visit the Alamo. In the span of two days over the holidays, my boyfriend and I saw parts of San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Memphis. It was certainly a whirlwind adventure! We didn't really have time to do each city justice, but I was happy to see a few landmarks like the Austin postcard mural and the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.

This was actually before I officially instated my winter capsule wardrobe, but as it turns out everything that I'm wearing made the cut! Living out of a suitcase and staying in five different homes in a three week period tends to have an unintentional capsule effect on outfits as it is. There was a lot of overlap between what I picked for my 41 items with what I packed for holiday break, so I hope I'm on the right track!

As well as the pictures I took by the wall, I took a lot of snapshots (below) on our travels with my Christmas present: the Pentax QS1 with the 02 zoom lens. While I am still enamored with my good ole Canon 5D Mark ii, there are some scenarios that don't warrant lugging around a heavy, professional grade camera. I plan on taking my new camera, which boasts great aesthetics as well as some hard hitting image capabilities, to concerts, music festivals, and on backpacking trips in the future. While I'm not an overly technical person, I would be happy to do a post giving side by side specs and pictures for both cameras I use if anyone is interested!

The holidays definitely left me with both a renewed appreciation for more permanent living situations than dorms as well as a bit of wanderlust. I don't know a lot of cities as well as I know Knoxville, but I'm looking forward to exploring even more great cities in 2015.
