It's Sunday evening where I'm at. I have an exam in the morning that I am somewhat prepared for, but haven't exactly started buckling down to study. But, in the spirit of Pen and Peplum's 52 Hand-Lettered Project, I wanted to share my first ever foray into the art of hand lettering. As a student of graphic design, typography is undoubtedly one of my loves. I often admire work done by hand, but needed some fire under my ass in order to actually go for it myself. I also purchased The Hand Lettering Ledger for some additional inspiration.
Even my second attempt was a bit smoother and easier than this go around, but sharing this very first doodle was in the nature of what it says: start somewhere. I fall into two categories of procrastination. Either I'm a perfectionist and feel too much pressure for something to be perfect to actually get started on it or I get obsessive about cleaning my space. Occasionally I have to ignore those tendencies for my own good. Getting started is the first step.
While it's not the tightest sketch I've ever produced, I hope the words still resonate. Whatever your soul is longing to do, be it creating more, working towards a big life goal, or just taking out the trash, just start somewhere.
