A few weeks ago right as the leaves were at their peak, I had the pleasure of visiting my friend Alysse in Boone for the second time. The first time around we got a chance to explore Bass Lake near Blowing Rock as well as walking about downtown. This time we took our focus up the mountain a little bit and spent the perfect fall day in and around Valle Crucis. While we didn't make it in time to go on the official tour at Apple Hill Farm, it's definitely something I recommend based on the staff and the shop.
On our way down, we stopped by the original Mast General Store. These lovely shops dot Western North Carolina and East Tennessee, but it was a treat to visit the original. After all, it still boasts a five cent cup of coffee. It very much stays true to its name as a general store, providing everything from soaps to old school sodas. My favorite part was the Rivercross Made in the USA where I found the sodalite ring you see featured in the outfit shots below.
As you can tell from these snapshots from our drive, the weather was unbelievably gorgeous for a day in the mountains.
When we got back down to Boone, the light was perfect to do a quick stroll on the Greenway trail. I happened to capture pictures of Alysse right as the sun was creating the perfect glow on the surrounding autumn trees. Apparently, after a week of rain, the leaves in Boone were absolutely perfect the few days I spent there. If you're ever looking for a fall road trip that has a good mix of quaint town attractions and outdoor adventures, Boone is the perfect area.
