There's something about the perfect pair of leather slides that makes every outfit you throw on have a certain relaxed, 1970s vibe. At its core, this outfit is as simple as can be: a black silk tank and jeans. But the slight wide leg of the jeans and the accessories elevate something simple into a subtle nod to a decade that I can't seem to escape.
When I am looking to define my style by certain decades and keywords, rarely do the '70s come to mind. I see my ideal style as a mix of decades that favored more structured silhouettes: think the workwear of the Rosie the Riveter types in the 1940's, the slim, tapered looks from the 1960's, and the minimal looks of the 1990's. However, what I'm learning is that sometimes a style ends up choosing you rather than the other way around. I may never feel comfortable in full on bohemian looks, but the easy charm of style icons like Jane Birkin is definitely popping up in my summer inspiration this year.
