Although these Weekly Notes posts are not meant to delve too deeply into my personal life, I want to open up a bit more with what I am reading this week. Due to a combination of several factors, expressing my emotions in an appropriate way has been a struggle for a long time in my romantic relationships. In an effort to guide myself through some of my tendencies, I am reading a pretty famous book: Codependent No More.
Although it might not be appropriate for every relationship issue, it is definitely hitting the nail on the head for me. Feel free to email me if you'd like to know more about my struggles, the book or codependency.
Perhaps the book is already doing some work on my thought process because one of the first songs I wanted to hear today was "Let's Live for Today" by The Grass Roots. I knew the song before I ever watched The Office, but it's definitely a fun bonus that Creed Bratton himself was in that band.
It's not so strange that I finished Stranger Things in less than a week. It has Winona Ryder, who may just be my all time favorite actress after reading this interview. It has an awesome soundtrack. It's set in the fall. And it's just one step from being too creepy to watch by yourself. The art direction is also wonderful, right down to the typography. If you're like me, science fiction isn't usually your genre of choice. However, this series stands alone as being truly great, regardless of genre.
I have been on a roll when it comes to cooking lately. When I take a rest day from running, I like to spend my evenings in the second most therapeutic environment I know: the kitchen. People always ask me about what being vegetarian is like and I can basically sum it up by saying that I definitely prefer cooking for myself to eating at a restaurant now. This week, I made these tarragon falafels and Mediterranean sweet potatoes. Next up for the week is vegan banana pancakes then Caprese garlic bread.
Did you know that the Smithsonian has a digital archive of beauty and toiletry products? I'm a huge fan of antique package design as well as beauty products in general so this collection absolutely delights me. It's also really cool to see some products that are still classics today, like Smith's Rosebud Salve.
After almost two weeks of my no-buy month, I can legitimately say that I feel like a weight has been lifted. That being said, I achieved my goal of finding swimwear for my upcoming beach vacation. I found this perfect Kate Spade one piece for such a good price that I was actually able to afford this adorable suit that looks like a kite as well. My secret was scouring the racks at the local Belk because they are having a ridiculous sale on swimwear at the moment. There are very limited sizes left, but check out the deals for yourself!
