While finishing up Avenue of Mysteries, I saved quite a few links on Facebook (its best feature, in my opinion) to read in my casual phone scrolling moments. One of favorites was from Outside Magazine: "Who Are the Women I Should Know in the Outdoor Industry?" Fashion and the outdoor world intersect on occasion, like when Patagonia pieces were in a Vogue spread, but regardless of the overlap I love both industries with equal vigor. Read the article to add some boss babes to your inspiration list, and be sure to check out Cotopaxi while your at it. I saw some of their fall offerings on display at Capsule Show and I guarantee you'll be as blown away as I was.
Pretty much anything Kendrick Lamar touches makes my heart go pitter-patter, but I especially love his latest feature choice: a wonderfully inspiring new release from Sia. The video serves some surreal but emotionally powerful aesthetics, while the song is sure to become my go-to "get your ass off the couch" anthem.
It's the best time of year: football season! I know you fellow University of Tennessee (the real UT, sorry Texas friends!) fans probably lost your voice just like me at last week's season opener, but let's hold on and put down the pitchforks. I was busy second shooting a wedding for the bigger "opening day" last Saturday, but I will absolutely be watching all of this weekend. It's not like UT is taking part in the largest college football game ever. Oh wait...they are.
Since I'm not making any special recipes this week, I have a beer recommendation: The Traveler Beer Company Jack-O Pumpkin Shandy. Yeah, yeah it's a bit odd to partake in anything pumpkin flavored when it is still 90 degrees outside. But this is a shandy, and so delicious that I think I get a pass. Plus, Wes told me that the local little farmers' stands are already selling pumpkins so the beer is technically in season after all.
Speaking of Wes, we have a new couple activity/obsession: stand-up paddle boarding. Of course, this is coming a little bit late in the season as far as rental activity goes, but I'm sure the good folks at Ijams will stay open at least a little longer to let us catch the remaining rays of warm summer sun. If you want an added work out, try paddling with a rowdy puppy. Patches made sure I had my core engaged the entire time.
Do you ever go down oddly specific online shopping rabbit holes and not rest until you have the object of your desire? I'll own up to the fact that I do this right now. Lately, these weirdly specific items have been multifold. First of all, I am obsessed with a specific color combination for the Nike Flyknit Racers. I have the sneaker stalking habit of someone a lot richer than myself and a shoe size that doesn't favor unisex styles, but I'll be damned if I don't find the original black and white pair in my size.
The next somewhat rare item I'm constantly refreshing eBay over is the Yashica T4 camera. They stopped producing this point and shoot film camera in 2002 or so, but it has quite the cult status thanks to its sharp little Zeiss lens and small size. I love shooting film and having prints in general, so a more pocket sized camera that shoots wonderfully is right up my alley. Just check out the Instagram hashtag for an example of the beautiful shots the camera produces.
